Thought on Things: Darude Sandstorm Pt. 1

Image
For those of you who are not aware of what Darude Sandstorm is, it is that song that goes "DO DO DO DO DO...DODODODODODODO...DODODODODODO...DODO...DODODODODO." And if that perfect representation does trigger your memory, give it a quick web search, you've probably heard it at least once in your life. And while you are there, watch the music video for it, because that will be the topic of this post. What is the deal with the Darude Sandtorm's music video? First thing's first, why do I keep on referring to it as Darude Sandstorm, instead of just Sandstorm? Well, I suppose it is just some learned trait that you pick up form the internet, because almost nobody refers to this song simply as Sandstorm. It's like an internet rule that the name of the artist, Darude, be included in the title. And no, it is not Darude's Sandstorm, just Darude Sandstorm. Or if the person using the title is feeling saucy, Darude - Sandstorm, as it appears in the original YouTube uplo...

Story Stream: July 14th Pt. 1

Going outside is unbearable. Even though my house only has one small window unit, It can create a comfortable climate when I stay a few feet from it. But outside, outside is a whole different beast. The weatherman said that we would be experiencing the hottest July 14th in recorded history. Why do they even track things like that, for us to feel better when it is hot outside? "At least it's only the second hottest day in recorded history." Well, newsflash channel 5, your little mental game of "it could be worse" isn't helping today. Even with your cheery little bronzed meteorologist telling me "It may be the hottest 14th yet, but all the more reason to hit the beach on this perfectly clear Saturday afternoon!"  I can do it, all I have to do is walk down to my mailbox, come back, and then I can plop right back down in that folding chair next to my A/C. Why does the mail have to be so far away? It's like the designers of this apartment complex we...

Thoughts on Things: Defrosting Chicken

Overnight   Ok, I am not sure if I am doing this wrong, or if all those food blogs are just lying to me, but I have never seen a chicken breast be what I would consider "thawed" after letting it sit overnight in the fridge. I don't understand it! Most every recipe I have looked at says "be sure to thaw chicken overnight in the fridge before cooking." And some of them even give me some drawn out explanation of why chicken must be defrosted in the fridge, and how it is nothing short of pure sacrilege to thaw it out on the countertop. But whenever I take my chicken out of the fridge, after having let it sit there for a solid night's sleep, it comes out as hard as rock. And I'm not talking about some wimpy sedimentary rock, I am talking about magma formed, pressured cooked igneous rock. In other words, I would have an easier time slicing the granite countertop I should have thawed that chicken on than the breast itself.  And I know you might be thinking ...

Welcome to My Blog

So, I have started this blog primarily as a way to keep my skillset in tip-top shape. You see, I have a very particular set of skills...you know, I have honestly never seen Taken. I sometimes wonder how many people have, because that is the only line I ever hear quoted from that movie, and I am pretty sure it was in the trailer. Is it even any good? Let me check...(googles Taken)...you know, it kind of has mediocre reviews, about half positive and half negative. It must have been at least moderately good because they made a second one...wait a second...it made a quarter of a billion dollars! And if you combine all three (I thought there were only two) it has made almost one billion! Why did they stop at three? I guess the last one made about 50 million less. I can just imagine some cigar smoking studio executive being talked to.  "Sir, the results for the new Taken movie are in."   "Great! How did we do? 400 million?" "Actually we got closer to 326 million...
